Can open school students appear for SLAT 2026?

Although SLAT is inclusive in terms of age, there are some candidates who have undertaken their Senior Secondary education through open schools or distance learning programs, and these candidates cannot access SLAT 2026. According to official sources and examination notices, students who have successfully completed their Class 12 examinations in regular (attending) schools that are affiliated with approved boards will only be allowed to apply to the exam. Therefore, the open school students cannot appear for the SLAT 2026 exam. This limitation can be explained by the requirements of recognition and academic standards of the undergraduate programs of the Symbiosis Law Schools.

Why are Open School Students Barred from SLAT exam?

The justification of this limitation is associated with keeping high academic standards and making sure that students have been equipped with their qualifications after full-time, recognised education. These were established criteria in symbiosis and a number of other central law universities in order to meet the guidelines of the Bar Council of India (BCI) and UGC in legal education. Although other undergraduate programs are known to take open schooling in certain universities, Symbiosis does not cover open schooling candidates in admissions to the law school through SLAT.
