Question 2. Why on dilution the LMR of CH3COOH increase drastically, while that of CH3COONa increases gradually? How will you determine the LMR of a weak electrolyte?

Question 3. Calculate the time to deposit 1.5 g of silver at the cathode when a current of 1.5 A is passed through the solution of AgNO3.

Question 4. In a reaction, the initial concentration of the reactants increases 4-fold and the rate becomes 16 times its initial value. The order of the reaction is:

  4. 2

Question 5. Give reasons: (i) Transition metals and many of their compounds act as a good catalysts.

(ii) The copper atom has completely filled d orbitals (3d) in its ground state, yet is recorded as a Transition Element.

(iii)The metallic radii of the third (5d) series of transition metals are nearly the same as those of the corresponding members of the second series.

Question 6. (i) What is the IUPAC name of the complex: [Ni(NH3)6]Cl2?

Question 7. What happens when:

(i) Methyl chloride is treated with alcoholic KCN.

(ii) Ethyl chloride is treated with alcoholic KOH.

(iii) Chloroform is heated with Ag powder.

Question 8. Give the structure of the major product expected from the following reactions:

(a) Reaction of Ethanal with methyl-magnesium bromide followed by hydrolysis.

(b) Hydration of But-1-ene in the presence of dilute sulphuric acid.

(c) Reaction of phenol with bromine water.

Question 9. Give a simple chemical test to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds.

i. Propanal and Propanone

ii. Acetophenone and Benzophenone

iii. Phenol and Benzoic acid

iv. Benzoic acid and Ethyl benzoate

v. Pentan-2-one and Pentan-3-one

vi. Benzaldehyde and Acetophenone

vii. Ethanal and Propanal

Question 10. Give the chemical tests to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds :

(i) Ethylamine and Aniline

(ii) Aniline and Benzylamine
