It has been a common trend among students of top engineering colleges to appear for b-school entrance exams like CAT and XAT . With rising favorability for MBA , one question that has been asked constantly is why engineering graduates want to pursue MBA? We have the answers for you!

Following are the reasons why Engineering Graduates seek Business Education:

1. Good Opportunities:

Engineering and MBA are the most sought after degrees and when pursued from the best institutions can collaboratively open the gates to almost all good organizations in the world. Salary offered to candidates who have pursued both B.Tech and MBA is much better. Experts have even said that a fresher with both the degrees is expected to get an average package of up to Rs.18 Lakhs.

2. Familiarity with Entrance Exam:

Studies have denoted that students with science and engineering background have a better grasp on subjects asked in competitive exams like CAT, XAT and GMAT . Mathematics being the strength of engineering graduates, the get unusually high scores in the quantitative ability sections of these entrance exams. This leads to a great score and allowing them to take admission in top b-schools.

3. Common Opinion:

It has been observed that after securing seats in IITs, a lot of students look forward to studying management from IIMs. Students are advised that MBA is important in order to get the best packages. Most of them start preparing for CAT in their pre-final years in order to secure a seat in the prestigious IIMs.

4. Programmes Tailored for engineering students:

Another reason why most of the top b-schools are crowded with engineers is that some specifications in MBA require good analytical and logical skills. These include MBA Banking and Finance. Also, in India students are not assessed based on his/her skills but are evaluated on the basis of their education and colleges. Therefore colleges used to prefer engineering degree over other qualifications. However, many colleges are now favoring academic diversity.

5. Switching fields:

Engineering is the most preferred undergraduate degree in India. Students are deceived to believe that the best jobs are available only after engineering. It is only after pursuing the course that they realize that engineering is not their true passion and hence they don’t find the idea of doing M.Tech and Ph.D. very appealing. Most of these students look forward to changing their fields through MBA.

With the market overflowing with engineering graduates, students have realized that a B.Tech degree alone cannot provide them a good job. MBA has therefore become a silver lining for struggling students.
