The city is now referred to as mini Mumbai because of the industrial and highly professional atmosphere that emanates from it. Students from across the country come to study in various colleges in Indore as the employability index of the city has increased immensely, says Vidhi Jain who hails from Udaipur and is a first-year student at Shri GS Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) – one of the oldest colleges in Indore.

Here’s how IIT-I and IIM-I helped in Enriching Indore:

  • Medium scale industries in Indore have linked up with the premier institutes in the city to promote industry partnership, training and placements at various colleges of the state.
  • With both IIT and IIM in the same city, the placement index for other colleges has also gone up as organizations are able to hire talented and skilled youth in both technical and management fields.
  • Students are accommodated in such a way that no two students from the same city are placed in the same unit of accommodation, in order to provide more exposure to students by creating a diverse environment.
  • With top institutions in the city like Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) students get opportunities to participate in projects and utilize the best research facilities in the country. RRCAT also has a MoU with IIT-I to provide internship opportunities to students.
  • IIT-I allows its undergrad students to pursue a minor degree with a major in exceptional courses such as ‘history of early cinema’, ‘Gandhian thought’, etc. that attract a lot of students.
  • Indore has definitely come a long way in terms of bridging the gap between education and industry with IIM and IIT collaborating together and providing various programmes.
  • The city has also moved ahead in terms of promoting entrepreneurship with the help of IIM-Indore’s progressive entrepreneurship programmes that encourage youth with potential ideas.
