The JEE Main exam analysis for 22 January 2026, Shift 1, is now available, following the exam's completion. An insight into the difficulty level of the questions, question type, number of questions, etc, is provided here:

  • JEE test-taker Gopalan from Coimbatore, who appeared for Shift 1, said, “Physics had direct formula-based questions, making it easy for me to answer maximum questions from Physics. I am expecting good marks in this section. Chemistry in today's shift 1 was relatively easier than yesterday. Both organic and inorganic sections were okay. Mathematics for me was a bit difficult due to complex numerical calculations.”

  • Gopalan was able to answer 14-15 questions in Maths, out of which he is confident about 10-12 correct attempts.

  • Mole Concept had a higher weightage compared to previous years; questions from Electrochemistry chapter were doable; Chemical Bonding questions were more or less easy.

  • Mathematics paper featured questions from Straight Line; Trigonometry based questions were difficulty to solve.

  • In Physics, questions were asked from Modern Physics, Optics, Capacitors etc., which were direct and doable. From Thermodynamics, 3-4 questions were asked and Modern Physics had more than 4 questions.

  • According to another test-taker from Guwahati, Maria, “Chemistry was tricky and confusing. Organic Chemistry was difficult, but Inorganic was doable. Maths was difficult and time-consuming, so it took almost one hour to answer the Mathematics questions. From Probability, 2 questions were asked, Complex numbers had 2 questions and overall, I could answer only 14-15 questions correctly.”

  • Overall, the students found Mathematics to be the toughest subject with tricky calculations.

  • Sneha, a JEE Main Shift 2 test-taker, shared - “The Maths questions were moderately challenging and I believe Day 1 Maths questions were comparatively easier than today’s paper.”

  • Another student, Akash from Delhi, was quoted as saying - “Chemistry questions were moderate and mainly NCERT-based questions.”

  • In Chemistry, the majority of the questions were asked from Organic Chemistry and they were theory-based, while Physical Chemistry was numerically based.

  • Statement-based 4 to 5 questions were asked from Chemistry.

  • As the Mathematics paper was tough, students could correctly attempt 8 - 10 questions.

  • As of now, Shift 2 was the toughest shift of Session 1 of JEE Main 2026.
