Day 3 of JEE Main 2026 Jan 23 Session 1 exam has been conducted successfully from 9 AM to 12 PM (morning shift) and 3-6 PM (afternoon shift). A detailed JEE Main 2026 paper analysis has been updated by CollegeDekho team. After reviewing today's paper, Puja Sharma, a senior school teacher at a private institute with 5+ years of experience in coaching Class 12 students and JEE aspirants, shared her insights with CLD - "Overall, Jan 23 shift 1 paper was of a moderate level . If I were to compare JEE Main session 1 is turning out to be a lot tougher than previous year's session 1. Chemistry and Maths have emerged as the biggest challenges for most students. Physics remains the most scoring and doable section out of all three so far." On the other hand, as per the reviews we received from students, Shift 2 paper was moderate, comparatively easier than the first shift.
According to JEE test-taker Vani from Vizag - " Mathematics calculations in shift 1 were very lengthy and time-consuming. It took me a lot of time of solve the paper. Chemistry, especially the Organic Chemistry part was very tricky. Physics was relatively better than previous days." Vani plans to appear in the JEE Main Session 2 exam in April 2026 and prepare for JEE Advanced hoping to get into her dream IIT.
Sakunth Kumar , with 10+ years of experience in guiding students, analyzes - " With the given moderate level difficulty level, students who have attempted 49-53 questions can fairly have chances of securing 99 percentile in JEE Main 2026 ". JEE Main Jan 23 Shift 1 Paper Difficulty Analysis 2026
According to Sanjeev, a JEE test taker and IIT aspirant from Bhopal - "The Chemistry section was moderate to difficult. I found some questions a bit tricky. However, the weightage was more or less uniformly distributed among Organic, Inorganc, and Physical Chemistry."
Khyati Grewal from Pune observed - "Around 4-5 questions were direct, formula-based in Chemistry. I was able to attempt 14-15 questions, out of which I am confident about 10-12 correct attempts."
The Mathematics paper featured questions from Straight Line; Geometry-based questions were difficult to solve.
Puja ma'am was further seen quoting - " Physics PYQs played a major role this year. Students who have thoroughly solved and practiced past question papers have been able to attempt most of the questions. This is because NTA has maintained a similar trend in Physics paper pattern so far. However, the Mathematics section having the maximum number of tricky questions needed conceptual clarity rather than rote learning ".
Amit Srivastava from Kurnool said - "In Physics, 2 questions were asked on Errors, 2 matching questions from Electrostatics, and one from Current Electricity. The majority of these questions were numerical-based and calculative, but doable."
According to another student from Bhopal, Ananya Rajput - " For me, Mathematics was the most difficult subject to attempt. One question from Dispersion and Deviation was asked, and it was deleted from the JEE syllabus. I could attempt 8-10 questions from Mathemmatics section as it was a bit challenging and formula-based ".
JEE Main Jan 23 Shift 2 Paper Difficulty Analysis 2026
Anshuman Tripathi, a student from JEE Agra centre shared - "The overall paper in Shift 2 was moderate, slightly easier than earlier shifts. Around 4-5 questions in Physics were a tough."
Pragya Ojha from Odisha stated - "Physics was easy to moderate for me. Around 6-7 questions were a bit tricky and calculative."
"Going by the question paper myself, I can say that the Chemistry question pattern has changed slightly. I see a lot of statement-based questions being asked this year. However, the concepts remain the same. Anyone who has studied NCERT concepts should be able to answer well." - Kurra Srinivas, Retired faculty from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, 30 years of experience in teaching Chemistry for Class 12, JEE Mains and NEET exam.
"3 statement-based questions were asked in Chemistry. Some were a bit lengthy." - Anjana Makhija, student and IIT aspirant from Noida.
"Mathematics paper was moderate but I would say it was a little doable than other days. I managed to attempt 15-16 questions." - Sohini Sarkar, a student from West Bengal.
"While Maths and Chemistry are dominating the Session 1 exam this year, Physics too has seen a slight moderation in its difficulty level in today's Shift 2. If NTA maintains this kind of similar difficulty patten across the upcoming shifts, then overall JEE Main Session 1 may witness a decline in cutoff by 0.1-0.2 percentile." - Sakunth Kumar, JEE subject expert at CLD.

What Are CollegeDekho Experts Saying for Upcoming Test Takers?
Here's what our experienced subject matter expert, Puja Sharma has to say to the upcoming shit takers:
Focus on high-weightage Chemistry topics, numerical problems.
Aim to solve Physics questions first as these are relatively easier and scoring, and then move other sections.
Make sure you have at least an hour to go through Math numericals, as those are often tricky and take more time to solve.
Practice time management under simulated exam conditions.
Expect either Chemistry or Mathematics to be troublesome; practice statement-based questions for Chemistry.
Read the question very thoroughly and don't panic.
