JEE Main 2026 exam time for Shift 1 is from 9 AM to 12 PM while Shift 2 timings are from 3 PM to 6 PM . All candidates are instructed to report to the allotted JEE Main Exam Centres 2026 at least two hours before the commencement of the exam to complete document verification, biometric verification, frisking and attendance marking.

Important Instructions for JEE Mains 2026 to Keep in Mind

The following JEE Mains rules and regulations regarding seat allocation, question paper verification, technical issues, and JEE Main 2026 Hall Ticket must be kept in mind while appearing for the examination.

  • Present your JEE Main Admit card - The applicant must immediately provide the downloaded or printed copy of their admit card along with the self-declaration form and valid photo ID proof. The on-duty test centre staff are permitted to validate the identification of applicants and may take action to confirm and verify the identity documents.

  • Seat assignment - Each candidate will be given a seat with a Roll Number. Applicants must locate and occupy the designated seats exclusively. If a candidate decides to move seats and does not take the seat assigned to him or her, their candidature may be withdrawn

  • Attendance Sheet and Thumbprint - Examinees are required to fill in their details on the attendance sheet, affix a photograph and sign it as per the instructions given by the invigilator. Candidates must make sure that their thumb impression is clear and does not smudge.

  • Verify the question paper - The candidate should verify that the question paper shown on the computer checks the subjects they selected, as specified on their JEE Main admit card 2026. If the question paper's topic differs from the subject the candidate selected, they should inform the relevant invigilator

  • In case of technological issues - Throughout the exam, applicants can speak with the centre superintendent/invigilator in the room if they need technological support, emergency first aid, or any other information.

  • Strict action against malpractice - If candidates are found to be providing false information or participating in multiple/different slots, then their candidature will be revoked/cancelled

  • Silence inside the exam hall - All candidates are instructed to maintain silence inside the exam hall while taking the paper

The JEE Mains rules and regulations for PWD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates slightly differ from those for regular/general candidates. Therefore, students belonging to this category must keep note of the following exam day instructions for JEE Mains 2026 -

  • Extra time: PWD candidates may be provided with additional time to complete the examination to accommodate their specific needs.

  • Scribe/reader assistance: PWD candidates may be allowed to have a scribe or a reader to assist them during the examination if required.

The candidates who will be attempting the JEE Mains 2026 are required to present the invigilator with documents specified on the NTA portal. As per the JEE Mains rules and regulations , the following are the documents required on the JEE Mains 2026 exam day:

  • JEE Main 2026 Admit Card - Candidates should bring a printed copy of the JEE Main Admit Card 2026 along with the self-declaration form. The form must be taken and duly filled out from the official NTA website and printed on A4-sized paper.

  • One passport-size photograph - A recent coloured passport-size photograph, same as uploaded in the JEE Main Application Form 2026 must be brought for pasting in the designated space in the attendance register at the exam centre.

  • Authorized photo ID proof - Any one of the following valid photo ID proof - Aadhar card, PAN card, driver's license, Voter ID, Passport, Class 12 board admit card with photograph, Ration card with photograph, Bank passbook with photograph.

  • PwD Certificate - Candidates claiming reservation under the PwD category must bring the supporting documents issued by an authorised medical officer.

  • A black ballpoint pen to fill in the attendance sheet in the presence of the invigilator

JEE Main Rules and Regulations 2026 - Things NOT to Carry on Exam Day

The items that have been mentioned above are the only things that candidates are allowed to bring into an examination hall. All other items are to be left outside the examination hall. Here is a list of items that you will not be allowed to bring inside an examination hall:

  • No baggage: All JEE Main candidates are restricted from taking any kind of bags or baggage in the exam hall. The exam halls will also hold no responsibility for items or materials lost or stolen on the exam centre premises.
  • No snacks and beverages: Candidates are also prohibited from drinking, smoking, or eating in the examination hall. Snacks and drinks like tea and coffee are also prohibited in the exam halls. Diabetic patients will be allowed to bring in sugar tablets or fruits as well as a water bottle. However, they will not be allowed to bring packaged food like candy, chocolate, or sandwiches into the exam hall.

  • No accessories : Candidates will also not be allowed to wear any kind of jewellery or accessories, like watches, in the examination hall. They must also try to wear simple clothes with limited pockets to restrict suspicion of the use of unfair means.

  • No electronic gadgets: Electronic gadgets like mobile phones, calculators, earphones, headphones, pagers, documents, slide rules, log tables, tape recorders or cameras, etc. are prohibited inside an examination hall.

  • No stationery: Candidates who will be attempting the JEE Mains 2026 Btech paper will not be allowed to bring in any kind of stationery, like pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, paper, or any textual reference papers in the examination hall. Candidates will be provided with the needed stationery from the exam centres themselves during the examination.

JEE Main Rules and Regulations 2026 - Dress Code

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the JEE Main exam, has released guidelines for appropriate dress codes. Candidates are advised to wear simple clothes with half sleeves to avoid any unnecessary metal objects or jewellery. Candidates are also advised not to wear any shoes or footwear with thick soles. It is also recommended to avoid clothes with large buttons, brooches, or any other decorative items.
