TNPSC Group 1 Examination Exam Pattern

The online portal for TNPSC Group 1 Examination has been opened for the interested candidates. Students who fulfil the eligibility criteria can fill the application form before February 19, 2020, through TNPSC official website. There are a total of 69 vacancies for which the candidates can apply for. The examination will be conducted in two stages: Preliminary exam and Mains exam. This article will cover all the important details related to TNPSC examination pattern and marking scheme.

This section will illustrate the exam pattern for TNPSC Group 1 Examination 2020. Students are advised to go through the exam pattern and marking scheme properly. This will help them understand how to prepare for the upcoming exam.

There will be three phases of evaluation for TNPSC Group 1 Examination, The preliminary exam, the mains and the oral test. The preliminary exam will be just the screening test which the students will have to qualify to sit in the mains exam. The final selection will be based on the marks scored by the candidates in the mains exam and the final interview test.

Preliminary Test

The preliminary test will consist of one paper which will include the objective type questions. The paper for the preliminary test will consist of a total of 200 questions.

Out of the 200 questions, 175 questions will be from General Knowledge, while the remaining 25 questions will be from Mental Ability and Aptitude test. The total marks for the paper will be 300 (with no negative marking) and the duration of the exam will be 3 hours.

The qualifying marks for each category of students in the preliminary exam are as follows:

Mains Exam and Oral Test

Including both mains exam and the oral test, the qualifying exam will be a total of 850 marks. For the mains exam, there will be three papers for General Studies (degree standard), Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III. Each of the paper will be of 250 marks each. The duration of the mains written exam will be of 9 hours, including 3 hours for each of the paper.

TNPSC Exam calendar for the 2020 exam

The oral test/interview round will be the final qualifying round for the candidates which will consist of a total of 100 marks. The duration and the question included for the final interview test will depend on the interviewer.

TNPSC Group 1 Exam Marking Scheme 2020

The marks obtained by the student in the preliminary exam will only be counted as a screening test for qualifying into the mains exam. However, the marks obtained by the student will not be included in the overall qualifying marks. The selection of the student will be based on the marks obtained by the student in mains as well as the interview round. The students who qualify the mains exam will be called for the final interview round. Finally, based on the marks obtained by the student in the interview round and the mains exam will be cumulated to allot the merit/rank to the student in the merit list.
