Yes, NCTE has proposed bringing back the one-year B.Ed from the 2026–27 session, but it is not fully approved yet. Only postgraduates and 4-year degree holders will qualify. Students with 3-year UG degrees must continue with the 2-year B.Ed until official Gazette confirmation.

Will B.Ed. Be of 1 Year from 2026?

Yes, but with conditions. Though this course is expected to be implemented in 2026-27, with the start of the 1-year B.Ed programme reintroduced by the National Council for Teacher Education, it is not for everyone. It is exclusively for the candidates possessing Master's degrees or 4-year undergraduate degrees. Approval in official form of such a proposal is still pending, as it is currently at the draft stage. The course is not yet officially active, and the NCTE does not declare it operational until a notification is published in the Official Gazette. Thus, interested students will have to wait for the confirmation before actually making any plans for admission.

FAQs

Can 3-year graduates switch to the 1-year B.Ed later?

No, 3-year graduates alone will not qualify for the 1-year B.Ed as per the draft. They must also complete a 2-year master’s degree in the relevant school subject. Without a master’s degree, they must continue with the regular 2-year B.Ed.

Will the syllabus change under the 1-year format?

Yes, the syllabus will be redesigned for a shorter duration. The new format will include compressed pedagogy modules, practicum, internship, and subject-focused training. The aim is to maintain quality while reducing duration for academically strong candidates.

What is the official rollout timeline for the 1-year B.Ed?

NCTE has suggested the 1-year B.Ed could begin around 2026, but this depends on government approval, gazette notification, and curriculum finalization. States and universities will implement it only after receiving official guidelines, so the timeline may shift.

Will the 2-year B.Ed be discontinued after 2026?

No, the 2-year B.Ed will not end immediately. Even if the 1-year format is approved, both courses will run together for a transition period. The 2-year B.Ed will continue for candidates who do not meet the new eligibility criteria.

Who will be eligible for the 1-year B.Ed as per NCTE’s draft?

As per the draft, only candidates who already hold a bachelor’s degree plus a two-year master’s degree in the same school subject will be eligible. The idea is that candidates with strong academic depth should be allowed to finish teacher training in one year.

Is the 1-year B.Ed confirmed for 2026?

No, the 1-year B.Ed is not officially confirmed for 2026 yet, but from 2026-2027, it might be implemented. NCTE has released a draft proposing the 1-year program, but final approval, notifications, and state-wise implementation are still pending. Until then, the 2-year B.Ed remains the official structure.
