Changes Introduced in NEET 2026 Seat Allotment

The authorities have introduced significant modifications to the NEET Slot Allotment system starting this year:

  1. Incorporation of AIIMS and JIPMER Admissions: Since 2021, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has taken charge of admissions to 15 AIIMS and two JIPMER campuses. This change ensures that 1205 seats in AIIMS and 200 seats in JIPMER are now allocated through the NEET process.

  2. Increased Colleges in AIQ Scheme: The number of colleges participating in the All India Quota (AIQ) scheme for NEET seat allotment has been expanded to 235 by officials as compared to the previous year. This move opens up more opportunities for candidates seeking admission to medical colleges through the AIQ seats.

  3. Expanded Admission Seats: Besides the participating institutes, the total number of admission seats has also increased. This augmentation allows for a larger pool of medical undergraduate seats available for aspiring students.

  4. Centralization of Certain Colleges: Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital (VMMC and SJH) along with ESIC, Delhi, have been brought under the central university. As a result, MCC will now administer the seat allotment process for both the 15% AIQ and 85% state quota seats in these institutions.

These modifications aim to streamline the NEET seat allotment process, ensuring efficient and transparent admissions to medical colleges across India.

  2. Specific University Quotas: The MCC will also handle the seat allotment for 100% of the seats in Banaras Hindu University (BHU), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and Delhi University (DU) for MBBS/BDS courses.
  3. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER): The MCC will oversee the allotment of 100% seats in JIPMER for both the Puducherry and Karaikal campuses.
  4. State Quota (SQ): For Delhi University (DU) and Indraprastha University (IP), the MCC will handle the seat allotment for 85% of the state quota seats.
  5. Institutional Preference (IP) Quota: The MCC will be responsible for allocating 15% of the seats reserved under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Institutional Preference quota.
