An increase in female representation from 18.5% in 2023 to 20.15% in 2025 indicates the tangible success of the policy of supernumerary seats, mentorship schemes, and outreach activities like 'Udaan' and 'Vigyan Jyoti' to motivate girls to take up STEM education.

As more women are admitted to the IITs annually, the institutes are gradually transforming themselves into a more gender-balanced and friendly academic culture, to the better for gender diversity in India’s premier engineering institutions.
