Greater Chennai Corporation has launched special coaching classes for JEE and NEET preparation across 81 government schools. This initiative was announced during the 2025-2026 civic budget session, and it included a detailed study session focused on in-depth preparation in Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography.

This scheme also entails a parallel support programme for slow learners through the subject-wise booklets. Along with this, they will also be assisted by the experienced teachers during dedicated counselling sessions.

The classes will be conducted by the teachers who have undergone training in exam-oriented teaching methods. Along with that, each school will be receiving an incentive grant ranging from INR 15,000 - INR 1.5 lakh as per the student participation, with a total allocation of INR 40.50 lakh set aside for the project.

This program is a part of GCC’s larger plan to improve education in government schools. The classes are conducted each day after lunch and continue beyond regular school hours.

Quoting a senior official from the education department, “Each class lasts about an hour, and the focus is on one subject per day. This schedule allows students to strengthen their conceptual clarity and maintain steady preparation.”

Another senior official said, “Preparatory books have been distributed to ensure that all students can access standardised study material.”

Along with this, GCC is also guiding students through the complete step-by-step process to apply for various competitive exams and complete the required documentation.

With the help of such efforts, the GCC desires to hone the academic performance of the students, bridge educational gaps, and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in higher education and competitive professional exams. A senior education department official said, If used effectively, these materials will help students improve their scores and gain confidence.”
