IIT Kharagpur opens Application Forms for Law and Public Policy ProgrammesIIT Kharagpur invites applications for Law and Public Policy Programmes 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur invites online applications for its specialised law and public policy courses for the 2026 academic year. Interested candidates can apply for the LLB (Honours in Intellectual Property Law), LLM and Master’s in Public Policy, Law and Governance (MPPLG) from the official portals of IIT Kharagpur. Deadline for application submission is February 20, 2026 .
The law courses are offered by Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (
RGSOIPL
), one of its unique institutions within the IIT system, focusing on Intellectual Property and technology-based legal education. The LLB is a three-year full-time programme offered for graduates in science, engineering, technology, medicine and related areas who aspire to make a career in law. The course combines the study of law with a strong scientific and technical background, which makes it favoured for aspirants for intellectual property and technology law.

Admission to LLB will be based on the National Law Aptitude Test (NLAT), a two-hour online test comprising questions on English, mathematics and science, legal aptitude, current affairs, logical reasoning and other sections. There will be no negative marking in the entrance exam, which will be held at Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
A two-year full-time LLM programme with specialisations in Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Law and International Law is also available from IIT Kharagpur. The programme is designed for law graduates who wish to develop advanced academic and professional competency. The entry will be on the basis of a CBT to be held in the same big cities.
Moreover, the institute has invited applications for the two-year full-time postgraduate programme in Master’s in Public Policy, Law & Governance (MPPLG) conducted by the Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Law and Governance. It offers a multidisciplinary insight into policy-making processes, legal rules and governance arrangements and equips students to work in government, industry, civil society, international organisations and academia. Admissions to MPPLG will involve a CBT and a personality test, followed by group discussion and a personal interview for the candidates shortlisted.
All the tests will be held under the Computer-Based Test mode and in different cities. Application fees differ for each programme and category. A concession application fee is applicable for female, third gender, SC, ST, PwD, and EWS candidates. Aspirants are requested to read the eligibility conditions before filling out the application form and submitting the form on or before the last date.
