Naturopathy College likely in VisakhapatnamAyush to Launch Rs 750‑Crore Naturopathy College & Hospital in Visakhapatnam: The Ministry of Ayush is moving ahead with a major plan to bring a naturopathy college and hospital to Visakhapatnam. Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav announced on Monday that the ministry has proposed an Apex Research Institute for Yoga and Naturopathy, costing about Rs 750 crore, and has asked the state government for 40 acres of land to set it up in the city.
The institute will be run by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), the top body for yoga research in the country. It will include a 450‑bed naturopathy hospital and will start a Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Surgery programme. In the first academic year, the college will admit 100 undergraduate students and 20 postgraduate students.
Construction of the naturopathy college in Visakhapatnam is already underway with funding from both the central and state governments. From the 2026‑27 academic year, the college will begin filling the 100 undergraduate seats, giving young people a new option for studying natural healing methods close to home.
In addition to the Visakhapatnam project, a Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy is being set up for Rs 100 crore near Nadimpalem, close to Katuru Medical College in Prathipadu mandal of Guntur district. The state government has allocated 12.96 acres for this institute, which will also provide medical services to the local community.
The Ministry of Ayush has earmarked Rs 165.65 crore for Andhra Pradesh for the 2025‑26 financial year, shared in a 60:40 ratio between the centre and the state. So far, the centre has released half of its share as the first tranche, and the state has matched it accordingly.
These steps are part of a broader push to expand Ayush facilities in the state. New integrated Ayush hospitals are planned, including a new Ayurvedic medical college in Dharmavaram and a Unani medical college elsewhere in Andhra Pradesh, aiming to give more students and patients access to traditional health systems.
