The forecast suggests the heaviest rain will stay in a few districts, but overall the region will see moderate to heavy rain, with a good chance of showers continuing into the early hours of 4 December 2025.
The Regional Meteorological Centre is keeping a close eye on the deep depression that is lingering just 35 km off the north Tamil Nadu‑Puducherry coast, at about 13.0° N, 80.6° E. It is expected to stay almost stationary for a while before slowly weakening, which means the rain bands will continue to affect northern Tamil Nadu for several more hours. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official alerts, as waterlogging and localized flooding have already been reported in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and nearby districts. Emergency crews are on standby with pumps ready for low‑lying areas.
Fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea, with a total suspension of fishing operations over the southwest and adjoining west‑central Bay of Bengal, as well as along the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, the Gulf of Mannar, the Comorin area, and northern Sri Lanka until the morning of December 2, 2025. Anyone already at sea should stay clear of these zones until the suspension is lifted.
