How to Use CLAT Previous Year Papers Section Wise

Most importantly you can check the section wise usage of the previous year question papers of CLAT.

SectionsDetails
English (Reading Comprehension & Verbal Ability)
  • Practice skimming: identify central idea, tone, and author’s stance.

  • Focus on linking words and transitions — they’re often the key to answer inference/attitude questions.

  • Make short summaries (1–2 lines) after each passage; this helps in quickly locating answers under time pressure.

Logical Reasoning (Analytical & Critical)
  • Learn common question types: assumptions, strengthen/weaken, inference, parallel reasoning.

  • Convert arguments into premise → conclusion form. Underline the critical premise.

  • Practice diagramming and short symbolic notation for complex arguments.

Legal Reasoning
  • Identify fact pattern, legal issue(s), rule(s) applied, and final inference.

  • Build a list of repeatedly tested principles (e.g., negligence basics, contract essentials, basic constitutional principles).

  • Practice translating fact statements into legal consequences; practice spotting irrelevant facts.

Quantitative Techniques
  • Speed and accuracy matter. From PYQs, pick recurring numerical topics and create formula sheets.

  • For arithmetic/algebra questions, practice writing short, structured calculations and learning quick elimination checks (e.g., parity, range bounds).

  • Timed micro-drills (10 questions in 15 minutes) help build pace.

General Knowledge & Current Affairs
  • PYQs test factual recall plus application to short passages. Create a rolling GK notebook (static + current events).

  • Use PYQs to identify topics that reappear (e.g., Supreme Court judgments, international organisations, economy indicators). Revise those systematically.

Best way to study Previous Year Question Papers of CLAT

Candidates can check how they can make the most of the CLAT Previous Year Papers.

ParticularsDetails
Exposure (read through)
  • Skim the paper once to see structure and types of passages/MCQs. Don’t time yourself.

  • Mark questions that look unfamiliar or tricky.

Timed attempt (real exam simulation)
  • Sit with only the paper, an answer sheet, and a clock. Mimic exam rules and fixed time.

  • After finishing, record raw section scores and total time used.

Deep analysis (most critical)
  • Check answers against keys. For every wrong or guessed question, write a short note: why wrong (concept gap / careless / elimination mistake / misread).

  • Re-solve the wrong questions without looking at solutions. If stuck, read official explanation and rephrase the logic in your own words.

  • For reasoning and legal passages, annotate the passage: premise, rule, conclusion, exceptions.

Consolidation and spaced revision
  • Add tricky questions to a personalised question bank or flashcards (physical or digital). Revisit them weekly.

  • Reattempt full past papers after 2–3 weeks to check retention.
