Never Miss an Exam Update

HBSE Class 12 Grading System 2026 is a 9-point grading system, ranging from A+ (90-100%) to E (fail). Students need at least 33% marks in theory and practicals to pass, equivalent to a D+ grade with 3 grade points. In Internal assessment, the Board uses a 5-point scale (A+ to D). The Haryana Board of School Education follows a CCE pattern under which most theory exams are conducted for 80 marks and practical exams are conducted for 20. In order to get A+ grade, students will have to achieve over 90%.

The minimum passing score for the exams is 33%, which must be obtained in both the theory and practical components. The grades that the students achieve in the board exams will be reflected in their HBSE 12th Result 2026 . The Haryana Board of School Education will release the HBSE 12th result 2026 in the second week of May 2026 on the official website, bseh.org.in. Check out more information about the HBSE Class 12 Grading System 2026 here.

HBSE Class 12 Grading System 2026

According to the HBSE Class 12 Grading System, students are graded based on their percentage scores, with corresponding comments to reflect their performance. A score of 90% to 100% earns an A+ (Outstanding) grade, while 80% to 89% results in an A (Excellent). A B+ (Very Good) is given for scores between 70% and 79%, and a B (Good) for 60% to 69%. A C+ (Above Average) is awarded for scores ranging from 50% to 59%, while a C (Average) is for scores between 40% and 49%. A D+ (Below Average) is given for scores between 33% and 39%, and a D (Fail) applies to scores between 20% and 32%. Any score below 20% is categorized as E (Fail). HBSE Class 12 Grading System 2026: Guidelines

Some rules and regulations are set by HBSE to provide the certificate of qualification to the students of class 12th. Check the detailed guidelines about the grading system from the pointers given below:

  • To earn the Certificate of Qualification, students must pass all five subjects in the external examination.
  • A minimum of 33% marks in the aggregate, including external exams, internal assessments (INA), and practicals, as well as in both theory and practical exams, is required to be considered 'Pass.'
  • If a student passes all six subjects (including an additional subject), the marks from the best-performing four or five subjects (excluding the compulsory subjects like Hindi and/or English, based on the stream) will be used to calculate the GPA or aggregate marks. The lowest score in the main optional subject will be replaced by the marks from the additional subject.
  • In case a student fails in either a theory paper or a practical, they will need to reappear only for that specific paper. For example, if a student fails in a theory paper, their practical marks will remain valid, and vice versa.
  • For the best five subjects formula, only the five subjects in which the student has scored the highest marks will be considered.

HBSE Class 12 Grading System 2026: Grace Marks

Students will be subjected to get a particular number of grace marks if they are unable to pass the board exams following the following provision:

  • 1% grace (per subject appeared) will be given for passing the board exams in as many subjects as possible, and not for improving grades.

How to Calculate Percentage from HBSE Class 12 Grades?

HBSE Class 12 reports both percentage marks and grades, so percentages are directly available on the marksheet from total marks obtained divided by maximum marks, multiplied by 100. Students can easily

  • Step 1 : Add marks from all subjects, including theory, practicals, and internals (e.g., Business Studies theory 80 + practical 20, English theory 75 + practical 25, etc.).
  • Step 2 : Divide total marks by 100 percent after totalling up all the points (e.g., 5 subjects at 100 each = 500 max), then multiply by 100 for percentage: (Total/ 500) × 100. After totalling up all of the points, divide the total score by 100 percent.
  • Step 3 : Students can get the total percentage of all subjects by dividing and multiplying the result by 100%.
  • Step 4 : Match percentage to HBSE grade table (80% = A grade, 8 points) using the HBSE Class 12 grading system table above. For example, according to the grading system above, one who has received 80% will receive an A and an 8 as their grade point.
