Maharashtra HSC Grading System 2026 has been specified by the Maharashtra Board. If you achieve more than 75% marks in all the compulsory subjects, then you will be provided with the distinction division, followed by Grade 1, Grade 2, and a passing grade.

Maharashtra HSC Grading System 2026 consists of a distinction division, followed by Grade 1, Grade 2, and a passing grade. If you achieve more than 75% marks in the aggregate total, which is calculated based on the 6 compulsory subjects in the Maharashtra HSC curriculum, then you will be awarded the best grade, which is the distinction division. After the distinction division comes Grade I, which is provided to the students who achieve more than 60% marks but less than 75%. Grade II will be provided to the students who achieve more than 45% marks but less than 60%. The rest of the candidates will be provided a passing grade.

Maharashtra HSC Grading System 2026

There are 4 grades introduced by the Maharashtra Board. You will get a distinction if you score more than 75% marks in the six compulsory subjects. Check the detailed grading system below:

To successful candidates who obtain not less than 75% marks in the aggregate, calculated based on the six compulsory subjects offered for the examination.

Grade I

To successful candidates who obtain not less than 60% of marks in the aggregate calculated based on the six compulsory subjects offered for the examination, Provided that, if the aggregate total number of marks obtained by a candidate is less than the total number of marks required for obtaining the first grade, by not more than 3 marks only, such candidate shall be given the necessary grace marks not exceeding three in computing his aggregate of marks for purposes of award of the first grade.

Grade II

To successful candidates who obtain not less than 45% of marks but less than 60% of marks in the aggregate calculated based on the six compulsory subjects offered for the examination.

Grade Pass

To all other successful candidates. Provided that, the First (with Distinction) or First or Second Grade shall not be awarded to a candidate who appears for the examination with any exemption earned by him.

Maharashtra HSC Grading System 2026 For Optional Subjects

For subjects like Environmental Science, there is a separate grading system released by the Maharashtra Board as follows:

  • A for 60% and above marks
  • B for 45% to 59% marks
  • C for 35% to 44% marks
  • D for below 35% marks
  • E for Exempted
  • H for Handicapped

Maharashtra HSC Passing Criteria 2026

You need to score at least 35% Marks in each subject (in theory and practicals individually) as well as in aggregate to pass. Accordingly, the minimum grade required to claim the pass status is C. As per the Maharashtra HSC Scheme of Examination, the exams for a student are conducted for 5 subjects, out of which 4 are optional subjects, while there is one main language subject. The maximum marks for a language subject are 100, while the Mathematics and Science subjects are divided into two parts and hold 150 marks individually.
